PA NOW President, Joanne Tosti-Vasey Speaks Out at RallyWest Chester, PA, November 21, 2009, Comments by Joanne Tosti-Vasey: We are here today to express our outrage and anger at Joe Pitts for co-authoring an amendment to the health care reform. Pennsylvania NOW was formed in 1971 after many local NOW chapters had already formed across the state. The need for a state organization grew out of organizing efforts to pass an Equal Rights Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution.
Today PA NOW is a statewide grassroots, nonprofit volunteer organization with over 13,000 contributing members and currently has 20 chapters in our state. We belong to the National Organization for Women based in Washington, DC which has over 500,000 members. NOW members are womena nd men, young and old, all colors, classes, and backgrounds, working together to bring about equal rights for all women.
